Curriculum Overview

The B.Sc Nursing curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in nursing science, medical knowledge, and clinical practice. It follows the standards prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council and is affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
The program integrates classroom learning with laboratory training and real-time clinical exposure, ensuring that students gain both theoretical understanding and practical competence in patient care


Curricular Framework for The B.Sc. Nursing program is a four-year program comprising of eight semesters that is credit and semester based. It is choice based only for elective courses. Competency based curriculum is the main approach that is based on ten core competencies. The courses are categorized into foundational courses, core courses and elective courses. The curricular framework shown in Figure 1 depicts the entire course of curriculum, which is further outlined in the program structure.

Year-wise Subjects (1st to 4th Year)

The first year of the nursing programme focuses on building the foundation of knowledge, communication, patient care, and professional ethics, according to the INC curriculum. This stage builds the core understanding of the human body and nursing principles. Students learn both theory and practical clinical skills. Qualities developed in first year especially clinical exposure helps students develop confidence and professional behaviour.

The second year of B.Sc (N) focuses on clinical competence, patient care skills and understanding of disease and medical management. The 2 year act as the bridge between nursing education and advanced clinical practice. It prepares students to handle patient’s independancetly with proper professional knowledge, skills, and ethical responsibility.

The third year strengthens student’s clinical expertise and professional confidence. It prepares nursing students to manage specialized patient care, participate in research activites and develop leadership qualities essential for professional nursing practice. It emphasizes specialized nursing care, leadership, research and advanced clinical skills. Students gain hands-on experience in hospitals and specialty departments.

B.Sc (N) in the final professional year we prepare students for independent nursing practice, leadership roles, and administration and professional responsibilities. The 4 th year transform nursing students into professional nurse. Capable of providing comprehensive healthcare services independently.
